Varanasi rewards anyone who slows down and punishes anyone in a hurry. This is a short trip built around two fixed points — the Dashashwamedh aarti at dusk and a boat on the river at first light — with the rest of the time spent on foot in the old city.
Kashi Vishwanath darshan is arranged through the corridor entrance with a pre-booked slot. Sarnath, where the Buddha gave his first sermon, is an easy half-day out and a complete change of register from the ghats.
Your guide is a Varanasi local, not a driver with a script. The old-city lanes are the point of the place and they are not navigable any other way.
Every day of the trip, with the hotel, the meals and the sightseeing written out. Nothing here is hidden behind a login.
Pick-up from Babatpur airport or Varanasi Junction, check in, and rest. At 17:00 we walk down to the ghat and board a reserved boat for the Dashashwamedh Ganga aarti — seen from the river, not the crush on the steps.
On the water by 05:15 for the sunrise row from Assi to Manikarnika. Back for breakfast, then a pre-booked Kashi Vishwanath darshan. Afternoon walking tour of the old city — Vishwanath Gali, the silk weavers' quarter, and the kachori and lassi that belong to it.
Morning drive to Sarnath, 10 km out: the Dhamek stupa, the Mulagandha Kuti Vihar and the archaeological museum that holds the Ashokan lion capital. Afternoon at the BHU campus and the New Vishwanath temple. Evening free on the ghats.
Optional 05:30 start for Subah-e-Banaras — the dawn ritual of yoga and music at Assi ghat. Breakfast, checkout and transfer to the airport or station.

A private AC sedan or SUV for airport transfers and the Sarnath excursion. The old city itself is walked — no vehicle reaches the ghats, and the lanes are the reason to come.

I have been to Varanasi four times and always watched the aarti from the steps, wedged in. From a boat it is a completely different experience. Our guide was a Banarasi who took us through lanes I would never have found and fed us at three places I will be going back to.
