This is a private trip for two, not a group tour with a couples' discount. Your own vehicle, your own shikara, and a houseboat cabin rather than a room in a wing of forty.
Two nights on the Dal at the start, when the lake is at its quietest, then Gulmarg for the gondola — phase two takes you to 3,979 metres on Apharwat, and there is snow up there most of the year. Pahalgam is the last two nights, for the Betaab and Aru valleys and the Lidder running past the hotel.
Room décor on arrival, one candlelit dinner and a private shikara at sunset are included rather than upsold. We will tell you before you book if the gondola's phase two is running.
Every day of the trip, with the hotel, the meals and the sightseeing written out. Nothing here is hidden behind a login.
Airport pick-up and transfer to the houseboat by shikara. Settle in, then a private sunset shikara across the Dal past the floating gardens. Dinner on board, Kashmiri wazwan on request.
Shalimar Bagh, Nishat Bagh and Chashme Shahi in the morning. Afternoon at the Shankaracharya temple for the view over the valley, then the old city — Jamia Masjid and the papier-mâché workshops. Early-morning floating vegetable market for anyone willing to be up at 05:00.
Drive 50 km to Gulmarg through the rice fields and the Tangmarg pines. Gondola phase one to Kongdoori and phase two to Apharwat at 3,979 m, snow permitting. Afternoon at the Gulmarg golf course — the world's highest.
A long but pretty drive through Pampore's saffron fields and Avantipora's ruins. Arrive Pahalgam mid-afternoon; evening walk along the Lidder.
Local taxis — mandatory under local rules — up to the Betaab valley, Aru and Chandanwari. Afternoon free. Candlelit dinner at the hotel in the evening.
Breakfast, then the two-and-a-half-hour drive to Srinagar airport. Security at SXR is slow; we aim to arrive three hours before departure.

A private AC vehicle for two, with the same driver throughout. Two stretches are exceptions imposed by local regulation: the Pahalgam valley taxis and the shikara to the houseboat, both of which are arranged for you.

Our own car, our own shikara, and the houseboat cabin rather than a room in a block. The sandbank—sorry, sunset shikara—with nobody else on the water at that hour is the memory. Room décor was waiting when we arrived and nobody tried to upsell us anything the entire trip.

They checked and told us the day before, which meant we knew to carry proper gloves. Apharwat at 3,979 m in late April with snow still lying — extraordinary. The drive from Gulmarg to Pahalgam through the saffron fields is long but do not let anyone talk you into flying it.
