Reading a tour package before you pay for it
Where the money hides: transfer types, meal plans, the word 'nearby', and what an itinerary leaves out on purpose.

Two packages to the same place, one twenty per cent cheaper. Almost always the difference is real and findable, and it is usually in one of five places.
Transfers. 'Airport transfer included' can mean a private car or a shared coach that waits ninety minutes for a full load. Ask which. On island and hill trips this is the single biggest difference in how a holiday feels.
The hotel, by name. If an itinerary says '3-star or similar' without naming a property, it is reserving the right to put you anywhere. We name the hotel. If it is unavailable we substitute upward, and we tell you in advance.
Meal plans. 'MAP' means breakfast and dinner. 'CP' means breakfast only. A package quoting CP against another's MAP is roughly a thousand rupees a day cheaper for a reason you will pay at the restaurant.
The word 'nearby'. A beach resort 'near Radhanagar' can be six kilometres away with no transport. A hotel 'near the Mall Road' in Shimla can be a four-hundred-metre climb that a seventy-year-old will make once.
And what is missing. Monument entry fees, gondola and ropeway tickets, permits, and the local taxi charges that some destinations make compulsory. None of these are dishonest to exclude — every operator excludes some of them — but they belong in your arithmetic before you compare two numbers.
